MTX 9500 help

i know everyone thinks mtx sucks but i was wondering of someone could give me some advise on how to hook up the sub. right now i have a mtx 9500 15" in a box that i made that is mtx specs. i think its like 2.5 cubes and 30 hz. its powered by a jbl gto 1201 amp and its hooked up by 4 gauge wire. the amps gain is up half way. the HU is a junk kenwood with 2 sets of 2 volt preamp output. it is pretty loud but i think it could be alot louder. i am going to upgrade to a 5v deck soon. what should i do to make it slam better? should i build a better tuned box and if so what hz? can i make it louder or am i just F***ed?

i dont want to get another sub because i stay broke. i can build another box. how much cubes and hz? and how big should the port be? oh and will a 5v deck make the sub sound better?

Yeah, MTX subwoofers like smaller boxes.

I'd personally put it in about 3-3.25cubes NET @33hz, with at least 60 square inches of port.

Also, get a different amp. I've dealt with that JBL amp on a 9500 12... and for some reason it sucked.

I had 4 of those of 2 modded 1501ds at 2000rms. I was pure ***! I don't know why a lot of peeps rag on them. I wish I had the **** things back, but shit was stolen a long time ago.

I say a little bit bigger of a box and try and find a 1501, even if not modded, they sound really good.

what brand 1501? i want somthing not to expensive but still good. the reason why i bought the jbl is because it was cheap.

This guy in town has a Integra with a 15" 9500 and a sounstream PCA1000D and almost breaks 140 tuned at 35hz.. I believe its around 3.5 cubes.. I would shoot around there..

hmmm that amp is only 800watts and 2ohms. so a 3.5 cube box tuned to 35 hz you say? i dont know much about tuning but is 35 hz a little high for a 15? my friend has a 12 tuned to 32 hz.

You have a single dual4ohm subwoofer correct?

So you'll need an amp that does power @2ohms...

Look into Kicker, Crossfire, Memphis...
