my 801d amp has two speaker outputs i have my sub hooked up to one of them now does this mean that i am only using half the power or should i bridge it

You are only getting half power through one of the stereo outputs. Yes you should bridge it so you get at least a mono signal. Depending on the sub you use you may want to go easy on the gain.
