Been a while since I've been in here.. Got a new 07 Forester XT Limited with a stock 6x9 sub located left rear panel.. From the installs I've seen on these cars, the enclosure can be dressed up (seeled and deadened) for far better subs, from 8" and possibly 10".. maybe even 12" if the dimensions permit with an MDF baffle and something that would handle under a cubic foot of space....

What do you guys think of the MB Quart Reference subs with inverted voice coils for low-profile fitment? Any experience? Feedback?

A 10" DVC 4ohm: http://www.cardomain.com/item/MBQRSH254

Same in a 12": http://www.cardomain.com/item/MBQRSH304

I've seen and read a lot about some other shallow mount subs.. such as clarion, pioneer, RF, kicker etc.

replace with TangBand 6x9 sub.

i wonder if it was in the design phase before maxxsonics or after? it does look good...very illusion audio.
IIRC, Illusion Audio is/was in charge of US distribution for MB Quart, in the limbo phase between Maxxsonics and RF. Might still be- haven't heard any news about it.

Being that there's nothing on MBQ's website, any guess could be a good one.. There's no telling who actually makes the things.. Been out of it for a while.. I gather that MBQ is under big transition, and that some of their stuff is eh, ok, and some is actually pretty good.. hard to say. In my old car I had a very old JL 10W6 that was satisfactory for me so anything that level or better in SQ and low-extension would be plenty of sub for my needs I think.. plus I'd love to be able to utilize that space in the forester to look completely bone stock.. Here's a thread where a guy did an install in a forester sub location (that particular car didn't have the sub but just the pocket)

Installing a little 6":

Installing something a little larger:
