Mounting TV to wall

I just recently purchased a flat panel TV. I am wanting to buy thing to wall mount it. It is a 46".

I have a couple questions:

1) Is there a rule of thumb of how high off the ground to mount it?

2) How hard is it to mount

3) Should I get the tilting one?

4) What should I look for in a wall mount?

1) I'd go with eye level or lower. Have you ever watched a movie from the front row of a theatre?

2) I would imagine that it can't be harder than finding a stud and throwing a few screws in, but I've never had one so take that with a grain of salt.

3) Is it really needed in your situation? Look at the price difference and make a decision.

4) Again, I've never had one, so I couldn't tell you.

WOO WOOOO

i just got a 65 inch sharp 120hz lcd last week. 190 lbs by itself

best buy installed it yesterday morning, when i asked the bestbuy guys about mounting it on the wall, he said for this one, you dont want to take the risk. it was 6k as well, so dont want the shit breakiing

but for your 46, go for it

The thing is, I would like to but the center channel on a stand. The stand is 22" tall and the CC is ~7" tall.

I am trying to picture mounting the TV about 3' off the ground. I would suppose the height mounted is a function of distance and seating position, not just seating position.

My TV is ~ 80lbs. They sell wall mounts for it.

try it out on the wall before you do it. maybe make a cardboard cutout quick and see what position looks the best / works the best for you.

the mounting process is pretty simple, like people said you are basically driving large screws into studs. i wouldnt cheap out on the mount either- i work at the brick (canadian retailer) and i see people always buying the crappiest mount.

id suggest the u50b by vantage point.

The tilting ones are ~$100 more. Is that a worthwhile feature?

boo on the tilting

ive helped hang two...maybe 3 on the wall

after you get it done your like.....that was easy.

Basically the larger the tv the more brackets and studs you need

we hung a 50" plasma above a fireplace. The tv was about 70lbs

be sure you know how to find a stud and that you use ALL the mounting hardware

I can find the studs.

I am reading that I should have the TV at eye level. I am thinking that is going to be too short and look stupid.

I am thinking ~4' up the wall. The height of that wall is 16'.

no tilt, waste of money. Mines a 60', i hung it with the horizontal center of the screen at 45''. That was almost eye level sitting down, and it gave me enough lower clearance to have things on my coffee table without interfering with the line of sight of the screen.
