Okay, my summer project is to upgrade my components. I am going with 6.5" ES braxials in combination with the CDT Stagefront system, mounting t19 silk tweets on the a-pillars ('98 Maxima). Two things:
1) My current 6.5s are mounted in the stock plastic cups of the Maxima doors behind factory grills. Anyone have any experience with replacing these cups and building baffles? In addition to providing far better midbass, I am hoping that replacing the cups with MDF baffles that are installed flush with the door skeleton will allow for extra room below the factory grill, necessary due to the significantly protruding angled tweet of the braxial. Safe assumption?
2) Between the braxials and the stagefront kit, I will have two crossovers and two blending modules that need to be mounted--all large. The decision: where, and how, to best mount them. I am strongly considering mounting them on a board/rack near the amplifiers in the trunk for the simple reason that both the z-crossovers and stagefront blending modules allow for extensive attentuation and frequency tweaking. The issue: If I mount the crossovers/modules in the trunk, I'll be running the *majority* of speaker wire after these passives. Is this less desirable than mounting the crossover and blending modules immediately prior to the speaker terminals, or not a problem?
