mounting depth q'

do all sub manufacturers list the "mounting depth" of thier subs universally?? Like specifically the measure from the bottom mounting flange of the the sub to the deepest portion of the mag??

what i'm getting at is that if i have a box that only has say 7 inches of internal depth, but has a double 3/4 inch mdf mounting baffle, then it would take a sub that has a mounting depth of the 7 inches internal space, PLUS the 1.5 inchs of of baffle to bottom out in the box......a sub with 8.5 inches of mounting depth right??so say a sub with a 7.25 depth would still work....right??..or no???

before you get into "space behind the mag" and that i would need venting....i know......but not all subs have vented poles....

basically i guess what i'm asking is does the additional depth of the box meduim (mdf in this case) ADD to the manufacturers listed "mounting depth"??

in teh cenario you place it would work, BUT that is leaving no air space beteen the back plate and wall of the enclosure and will cause problems. a deeper box giving 2-3 inches between the back plate and the wall of the enclosure would be recommended.

yeah, i know it'll need some space....i will calculate that in, but i need to figure the BARE minimum mt depth.....still...i dont know how accurate the manufacturers specs are...or if they are padded to allow for this depth necessary for cooling...i have had 2-3 subs that i have measured EXACT depth dimensions on, and they were both less than the spec sheets.....so it got me wondering...

im not worried about the box.....i was more concerned with the method/accuracy of manufacturer supplied depths....

i measured one of my orion subs here and manufacturer depth was listed at 5.75 but on my bench from mounting base to mag bottom it was 5.25 right on the nose.....thats a lot of difference when you dont have much space (reg cab truck)...LOL...

well hell..i just look at the orion page and it lists on their page the mt depth at 5.25 then the spec sheet has 7....i guess the spec sheet accounts for the .75mdf used, but it dont say that no where...

i need a shallow mount (under 6 inch) but i dont WANT a shallow mount crappy comp vt or some thing....
