mounting amps

i read alot saying you shouldnt mount amps on the box. but i see so many people doing it. is a rule of thumb when you have no choice but to mount onto the box. as in how do you decrease the amount of vibration or what not to no mess up the amp

if the box is well-built there's no problem with mounting the amp on it. its just it makes stealing the amp/box easier and puts more holes in your box. but if you have no choice because of space, mount it on your box

no problem? really? well built or not a sub box is going to vibrate. amplifiers are made up of tiny electrical parts held together sometimes only by solder. they were never designed with the intention of constantly vibrating while in operation.

If you have to do it put some rubber gaskets under the mounting feet/tabs or do something that will help absorb the vibrations and put a little space between the actual amp and the box. I have had my MTX 1501 mounted on my box for a long time probably a total of 3 years now and haven't ever had a issue.

If you really want to get technical, some designs of amps are designed not to be moved in a shearing motion. If you mount it on a box in a certain way. If the box flexes, sometimes whatever is holding the board to the chassis of the amp, usually the fets, can break at the package. Has nothing to do with the solder style. I do not mount my amps directly on the box, I have repaired amps that have died from whole rails eventually breaking off at the case of the fet.

Try to avoid it if you can.

I never mount my amps or other peoples amps that I install on the sub box. I've seen a HK4000D catch on fire because of the vibration causing solder to come loose and short out.
