Mountain Biking

A good trail bike for $500 thats not a Giant or something simillar is going to be hard to come buy. Especially a full suspension bike. I would look into a rigid frame trail bike that has a good fork on it. But I dont ride trail/CC only freeride and DH

i just bought an 08 kona fire mountain and an 08 kona shred a few months ago, both are great bikes. there are some nicer bikes out there but for the money, kona is hard to beat. i rode a few different bikes when i was shoping and the konas just felt the best, great bikes and a great company.

I thought you wanted to stay away from used S-A? Man, I bought my Trek Fuel used and it was perfectly fine (2 years ago for $550). Buying a used bike is NOT like buying a used car.

I would seriously consider the Fuel or Liquid man. Hell, I'll sell you mine if you want for $400 shipped. I JUST now (since the idea came to me from this thread, thanks) bought a Titanium frame I'm going to build up.

Always wanted a super light frame to catch some good air.

best advice i can give is ride it before you buy it, even if its just around the parking lot. it would really **** to get stuck with an uncomfortable bike.

x2

even to the casual rider you should be able to tell whether a bike is built well or not.

look for parts brands like fox, shimano, rock shox, fusion,
