Well the other three of my roomates showed up with mountain bikes this year, and im looking to get into it. We have quite a bit of trail riding that can be done around here and i need suggestion on a bike to anyone that rides.

im not sure what i should tell you other than i am 6'3", 200lbs, and my budget is

let me know what i should check out...preferably more than one kind, and hopefully ill be able to find out at one of the bike shops around town....

thanks

this is what i came up with really quickly...Giant Yukon, Specialized Rockhopper, Trek 4900, Gary Fisher Wahoo, Metobecane 600HT, KHS FXT trail....

im reading though to get a full suspension bike in that price range is basically useless

check into specialzed

i recall they had a bike around 800 that was good for light trail riding.

if you are going to stay with it i suggest getting the FSR XC, that is what i have, although it is almost 1500. it is built like a tank with shimano gears, derailures, shifters, as well as a rockshox front shock, and fusion rear air shock.

i forget the company that makes the disc brakes but they are also pretty good.

dont get giant, they weigh a ton and arent that great IMHO.

Specialzed, Gary Fisher, and Trek are the only ones you should consider from what you have listed.

Get a Trek Fuel. You can get them used off Eghey for around the $500 mark and it's the lightest, and most comfortable dual suspension bike I've ever owned. The geometry is great for easily getting the bike off the ground if you want to.

I would love to get a Cannondale, but I'm not going to drop a couple of g's on a bike for a little while longer.

i would rather stay away from used...also i have a friend that works at the local bike shop...hopefully he can get me a discount

check out sports authority..they actually have some decent mid level bikes and they put them on sale for crazy discounts every once in a while.
