more power = more output???

sorry if this has been covered already, i'm sure it has, just haven't found anything quite like what i'm looking for

let's take for example... a 12" sx rated at 1000rms, giving it it's rated power in it's ideal ported enclosure...

now take 12" L7, in it's ideal ported enclosure... giving it's rated 750...

does the L7 have the potential to be louder?? can a quality 400rms sub in it's spl enclosure out perform a quality 1000 rms in it's spl enclosure?

i want to try different subs without sacrificing output... after having an sx 15 ported running off of 1200rms for so long i'm afraid to try anything else...

i would like to try running my amp at 2ohms, only throwing about 750 to a sub because it'll be better for my elec, but i don't wanna sacrifice the output...

any one have a scientific explanation??

as a daily listener, i don't need something that desires a lot of power... just something that'll get loud and sound good to my ear... not for competitions and what not... and the sx is that driver... but i'm looking for a 15 that has a bit more sq but get's relatively close in loudness off of a bit less power... wasen't sure if this was obtainable

DW said the new Tempests are going to be the SPL subs. The old school ones were very efficient but like dvery large boxes.

You are asking about comparing subs with different power ratings and/or different power inputs to them. Basically you are asking about driver efficiency. Yes one sub using 500 watts can be louder than one using 1000 watts, simply due to the fact the the 500 watt sub is just that much more efficient. BUT, over all efficiency is dictated MUCH more by the enclosure than it is by the actual raw driver. Dont worry too much about subwoofer efficiency.

ya try an SE...found this comparison over at SIN and thought it was actually a d*mn good description:

RE - Budget Wang

SE - Scared to run an SX Wang

SX - Budget SPL Wang

XXX - W7 spanking wang

MT - Wangtastic
