Monoblock problem please help!!!

I have a brand new Hifonics ZRX 1500.1D. Took my friend's amp out of his car because we wanted to test out the new amp. He has a 15 inch kicker i do not remember exactly wat it is. But anyway we hooked up the amp perfectly and the output was terrible. Fuses were good, turned on and everything. Did not go into protection. It was not hitting very hard at all. Took it out and hooked his jbl 750 watt monoblock back up and it pounded great. What is going on with this amp?

His car has a different gain setting than yours and you have a 1 ohm amp he has a 2ohm amp and his i a higher quality than yours not that yours is bad his is a little better albeit less powerful. Could be clipping his subs from him having a better radio with high prep it voltage as well.

Have you messed with the gain any?

to get any output at all we had to turn the gain all the way up...kind of silly in my opinion, i was thinking that his car might not have a sufficient enough electrical system to power the hifonics. he drives a tiny chevy aveo with a stock alternator. I believe it is like 70 amps.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it. The ZRX series of Hifonics amps are simply not very good. I'm assuming his speakers are wired to a 2 (or 4) ohm load and the JBL amp is putting out the full 750w at 2 ohm while the Hifonics would be lucky to be putting out 500 at that ohm load. Either that, or you've got some settings messed up... or user error

Ok i gotcha, im pretty new to the scene so i was just wondering what was going on. I'm hoping the amp isn't defective, i do not think it is, im guessing that its just not that powerful. It should work pretty well with my subs as they are only a 1 ohm load.
