My mom's 2001 Yukon XL Denali has finally started to go. So she is looking to get something new. I looked at new Yukon Denalis and Lincoln Navigators (non XL) but the MSRP is like $62,000. My mom said she was willing to pay a decent sum but not that much.

I really like the Expedition Limited and with all the stuff she wants it only comes out to $50,000 I think.

First of all, she wants a 2012 model SUV with a V8. Those are basically the only requirements there are for her.

What would you guys recommend? Since I am not too well versed in automotive stuff. I was wondering if the new Durango was any good. She isn't one for Japanese and Korean vehicles but may consider a Nissan. I told her to consider German cars but they don't really have the room/power she wants.

Thanks for the help guys. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I forgot to look at the Suburban options.

A Caddy would be sick, but my mom likes to haul things around and go up in the mountains so she wants a more practical vehicle.

Thanks for pointing out the Grand Cherokee, I like Jeeps but always forget about them. I hope the Yukon holds up until I head back home because I want to test drive some of these vehicles with her. She also said one reason Ford is low on her list is how the seats fit her. Hopefully, they have changed because I like that new Expedition. But I really want to give the Jeep a try.

it sounds like your mom is hung up on a v8 for some reason, but if you're going to consider smaller SUV's like the jeep cherokee (let's face it, compared to a suburban that thing's pretty small) why not consider a honda pilot? I love american cars very, very dearly, but i'm sorry to say that honda makes the best motors (that reasonable people can afford). And the 2012 pilot looks very nice.

My mom likes to haul a lot of stuff around most of the time. And in a few instances she had to pull a trailer. She could get away with a smaller SUV but she likes her gas guzzlers. What can I say, my dad picked a woman who loves a V8! And yes she is set on American cars, so basically Yukon/Tahoe, Expedition, Grand Cherokee. How do those 3 compare?

The Yukon XL has lasted about 10-11 years and was pretty reliable. But I told her to go out and test out different vehicles on her own. Both Ford and GM dealerships in my parents area have been great to my family.
