Modding the MTX 1501d Tutorial

Yeah, you can run it no problem.
For a modded 1501d @1ohm I recommend:

200+ Amp HO Alternator

Deep cycle under the hood (Such as Optima Yellow Top)

Big3 in 1/0

Dedicated run of 1/0 to the 1501d

I ran two 1501d's, one on each coil of my MT15 @.7ohms daily. And I have a HO 220amp alternator, Kinetik HC2400 under the hood, Optima D31 Yellow Top in the rear, Big3 in 1/0, and Two runs of 1/0 to rear battery... and it was STILL tearin my shit up... at least @idle... heh.

****, I ran one on my SX back when I had it and didnt have any problems. I've got a yellow top under the hood, 1/0 gauge big 3 and amp wiring, and a 120amp alt. Even at idle I didnt have any problems.

That's just what I recommend to run it with no problems, I had a friend smoke one b/c of lack or support (lack of current...etc...)

This thread is incorrect. Q240 is not a resistor, it is a SMT transistor with 3 legs that you must remove to complete the mod.

snoop's right.....looking back i didnt notice that but it isnt a resistor lol.....but yes that specific piece removed does the trick.

NOW...with these modded, it'll do half ohm for about 10 min full tilt before getting very hot...clipped as hell, but shizzer load of power output for those burps.

1 ohm it'll do daily for about 30 min full tilt before it's pretttty **** hot.......if you do run it past it's thermal limits it'll actually cut out and shut off...if you reach this point it needs a rest, cause continued abuse after that point will blow those mosfets..... i felt like abusing the hell to find it's limits one day and a hot FL day with test tones for about (3) 20-30min sets with like 20 min to cool (not long for the heat level it was at) in between with test tones, sine waves, and heavy bass songs.....will result in blown mosfets.... but daily at 1 ohm it'll be fine for like 30+ min fulllll wang before it needs a breather.....wish the chasis was made beter for rigging fans to blow across thwe board...... clipping wasnt too bad @ 1 ohm... even a hot day @ 2 ohm after a while it'll get close to as hot as 1 ohm after 30+min. these babies can take some serious abuse for a while before blowing. not like IA 20.1 durable but still very durable for the money..... hell i have 2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i want to mod mine but im not to sure if its not gonna be a reliable daily driver amp... will it shorten its overall lifespan? (yes i know old post, but its very informative)

only shorten the lifespan if your continually running it at below 1 ohm at full load. The switiching fet's will just eventually mechanically fail (yes its solid state, but when I say mechanically i mean the metal leads to it, as well as the semiconductor junctions will start to break down physically and deteroriate)
