Alright I see this question asked a lot around here on how to mod the MTX 1501D. Its a very simple task and most people can do it. I just picked up a used one and have decided to mod it and snap a few pictures of the process for those of you that don't know how.
The two things that are done in the mod include releasing the compression circuit and removing the resistor Q240 from the board of the amp.
Here is where the resistor is located \/
Here it is after it was removed \/
I just grabbed a soldering gun and a pair of small needle nose pliers and I heated up the solder on the resistor for a little bit, then crab it with the pliers and just wiggled it off nice and easy.
BTW, doing this obviously voids the amplifiers warranty.

They don't do it from the factory because the chip you remove is the part of the protection circuitry that shuts the amp down if it see's a load below 2 ohms (ie dead short) so when modded you have to be careful not to touch the speaker leads together while the amp is on, or you will short it out. And yes the mod will allow up to 18.5 dc volts and down as low as you feel comfortable on impedance... I wouldn't suggest any lower than .5 for daily.
q 240 is located in the south west quadrant of the amp... you have to be careful not to remove d240 that is right beside it. Also, the compression circuit is a little white button next to the rca end of the amp. It needs to be pushed in the "out" position.
