You are such a tool! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif You really should have stopped a long time ago. You obviously have no working knowledge of lead acid batteries.Batts have some combustible materials but I'm pretty sure acid and the fumes from acid are not flammable.
I think its more of a health risk for your lungs.
From an Optima MSDS:
First off, we were discussing how flooded batteries should not be used in a trunk. Optima batteries are sealed AGM batteries. Even the newest noob to the board knows the difference. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Here is a quote from a book I found via the Google Book Search titled Build Your Own Electric Vehicle.
Now that applies to non-sealed flooded batteries only. That is why it is safe to use sealed AGM batteries in the trunk, since they do not allow for the gases to escape the battery (under normal use). All of the AGM batteries I have worked with are recombinant style batteries, which simply means that all of the gases are kept inside the battery during charging and recombine inside the battery. That is why AGM batteries are safe for use inside the cabin of a vehicle.Gassing (flooded batteries)
As charging nears completion, another phenomenon takes place: hydrogen gas is given off at the negative cathode plate and oxygen gas is given off the positive anode plate. This is because any charging current beyond that required to liberate the small amount of sulfur radicals from the plates of ionizes the water in the electrolyte and begins the process of electrolysis (separating the water into hydrogen and oxygen gas). While most of the hydrogen and oxygen recombines to form water vapor (the main reason that periodic replenishing of the water is needed in this battery type), the presence of flammable ad potentially explosive hydrogen gas strongly indicates that charging be conducted in a well-ventilated area, and that you avoid lighting a cigarette.
Here is a good LINK to some very trustworthy battery information. Read it thoroughly before making a fool of yourself again here on the board.
