Mixing dry and wet batteries

optima batteries are gel cell also the yellow top is listed as a dual propose in other words you can use one up front and in the back. but as far as mixing batteries thats a big no no with out some kind of isolator in place between them

Here is simpler a example for those that don't understand " If you mix water and dirt you get mud....." //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
is this just you opinions??? or is there something to prove this myth

ya i should of not gotten that red top then, im going to sell it and get a deka for under the hood.
dude i will not beleive this shit untill someone shows proof b/c i think it is just a bunch of opinions

i am gunna run wet and dry untill i find out if something happens or if someone provides proof like i said

ya well, for me its because the batteries i'm going to be putting in the trunk are deep cycle and I've heard that the red top will be killed if its deep cycled. so i might try and exchange it for a yellow. or get a deka.

Thread jack and question. Lets say you have regular battery up front. And two kinetik 1800's in back. Would it be smart to toss the front battery and take one of the 1800's and put it under the hood instead?
i have a kinetik 1800 under the hood and a 2400 in back. never have any problems starting

yeah i am going out right now and start my big 3 and run my 2 runs of 0ga to the back and hook up the battery i will let ya'll know how it goes

i got regular autozone starting battery in front and red top in back red top is brand new never used so we will see how it goes from there

well i got everyhting hooked up and set up the way i wanted it

i will have pics up tommorrow i had to let my brother in law barrow my camera before i was done

all i got to do now is my false floor and add subs

when engine is cold i am running 14.6 when warm i am running 14.0

stock alt right now

Why ya'll sissies run dry cells anyways? Be a man and run group 29 or 31 wet batts in the trunk. Who cares if they leak gas? Be a man.

No, I don't know why people cry over acid batts in the passenger compartment.... I have ran them for years now, only 1 has offered to leak. You just have to check them every month or so. I run dual purpose marine batts, so no worry about starting or running down when engine off playing.

WRONG! Optima Red, Yellow, and Blue tops are all AGM batteries. Noob! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

So let me get this straight, the oxygen and hydrogen gas in your car is less explosive than the gas in any other car. You must have some magical anti-flame material that composes your trunk that keeps the oxygen and hydrogen gas from being flammable. In your trunk, the laws of chemistry and physics do not apply. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

For all of you out there (and some manufacturers too), AGM batteries are not dry cells. They do have water and sulphuric acid just like flooded batteries do. They are what is called starved electrolyte batteries, which means they have less water and acid than a flooded cell, but they are not dry. Li-On, NiMH, NiCd, and alkaline batteries are examples of dry cell batteries.

Should you mix flooded and AGM batteries? Not if you want them to last. Should you mix different AGM batteries? Not if you want them to last. If you do not care about lifespan of your batteries, go ahead and mix them any way you like. They will usually work fine for a while. They might even get you years of service. Just know that you will reduce the lifespan of the batteries. Usually the smaller ones will be deep cycled more than the larger ones. The larger ones will usually become more stratified and sulfated.

Batts have some combustible materials but I'm pretty sure acid and the fumes from acid are not flammable.

I think its more of a health risk for your lungs.

From an Optima MSDS:

Acute EffectsAcute effects of overexposure to lead compounds are GI (gastrointestinal) upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea,

constipation with cramping, difficulty in sleeping, and fatigue. Exposure and/or contact with battery electrolyte

(acid) may lead to acute irritation of the skin, corneal damage of the eyes, and irritation of the mucous membranes of

the eyes and upper respiratory system, including lungs.

Chronic Effects

Lead and its compounds may cause chronic anemia, damage to the kidneys and nervous system. Lead may also

cause reproductive system damage and can affect developing fetuses in pregnant women. Battery electrolyte (acid)

may lead to scarring of the cornea, chronic bronchitis, as well as erosion of tooth enamel in mouth breathers in

repeated exposures.

No, maybe not less flammable, but I don't care.

I smoke non-stop in my car. No big boom yet. My batts are in the cargo are of my SUV w/o a vent. No cares still.

I run sealed marine batteries. If they dont leak in a sealed boat engine compartment, I don't worry about them in my truck.

I understand that those Kinetics are cute and look good when you have 5 in a row. But I cannot afford them, so I run cheaper but stronger ones. Same reason why I use welding cable instead of Kicker wire.

Back to original topic: mixing styles of batteries is a bad idea. Not dangerous, but bad for the batts. I can't believe any of ya'll got more than a month out of an Optima when mixed with a regular battery.
