I had 2 yellowtops go bad in 6 mos. on me i was told after the second one went out that is was because i was mixing wet and dry batteries and they drain one another..I am no battery expert so please chime in and let me know what you guys know about this I dont want to spread bad information..

It was hell i cant even remember now that was 2 years ago but i do know the front battery was a brand new one from autozone if i recall the top of the line not a optima though and then then a single yellowtop in the back. The first one lastest 6 mos. then the second one lasted six months and thats when i was told this si i wrote off optimas and have just made sure to not mix and match since..

If you check out the people that convert their cars to electric you will see that they usually use isolators between all of the batts. That way if one batt goes bad the others are protected.

Yes i understand if one goes bad protect the rest however i am just wanting to know if my information was correct about mixing the batteries..

Well a starting batt has thin plates which can deliver power quickly for starting. A deep cycle batt has thick plates which is made to deliver power slower, over a longer period of time.

So when you connect a batt with thin plates in parallel with a batt that has thick plates, you can see why there can be problems.

Oh wow plates what the hell are those in a battery I thought it was a wet or dry batter lead acid or not..This is a area i have a lot to learn I guess

Thread jack and question. Lets say you have regular battery up front. And two kinetik 1800's in back. Would it be smart to toss the front battery and take one of the 1800's and put it under the hood instead?

Easier to just get an isolator and install it after the starting batt.

But I think you can put your kinetik under the hood. I don't have much exp with kinetiks.

Theres alot of info if you search for it.

This site has some basics:

When you say dry batt I think you mean AGM. This is where a fiberglass layer soaks up the acid to keep it from moving around like a flooded batt. But all car batts use a form of sulfuric acid.
