Mixing batteries

I have 2 different batteries in the trunk... and they are fine.....just like my voltage!
same here with my 96 Accord, i have a little stock Costco batt in the front and a pc1750 in the back and no issuses here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I think the "Leaching" that has been mentioned is the problem that both batteries arent exactly alike and the stronger of the two would be charging the other trying to reach a said equalibrium.

I hear the same thing how they will take off of each other charge if one sits at 12.5 and one at 12.99

But wouldn't the same thing happen with 2 of the same batteries?

I ran 2 different in the back and they stayed charged fine. But i am going to be running all the same back there.

That's what I would think.

its fine to do just as long as it dont sit for a long period of time if it is going to be setting for a long time just disconnect the rear bat. i think this argument is as old as the argument for witch battery is the best. at one point people were saying deckas were good then the next thing you know people are saying there not. its all about personal preference

I think much of car audio is like this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

X2
It's usually all the ignorant ppl spreading their hate through out CA.
It doesn't make sense on a DD, especially the way it's been explained. But some people know everything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And thats the main thing I cant stand. Who wants to deal with the "know it all" while you're trying get answers on something you dont know or understand.

Two of the same batteries would charge and discharge the same so if your wires are correct and you install two identical batteries it is very doubtful they would get to be that far apart in their charge. How bad it actuallyis depends on what is mixxed. AIf the mix only lasts 2 or 3 years chances are it is not a very good mix.

great thread! the answer(s) was given to every question and there was a positive vibe comming from this whole thread! loved it and was curious myself on the problems with haveing different batterys.

one final point: wouldnt everyone have crazy stories if it actually mattered b/c i dont know anyone that has the same battery up frount as the ones in the back. maybe same brand but never the same size....

Thanks guys/

A battery stores power so it is like a fuel tank right? So lets say you have a 10 gallon tank up front and a 20 gallon in back. Since they are different tanks they have different entry pipes of a different diameter. The entry pipe will equal to a batteries recharge rate as these pipes are what is filling up the tanks. Lets say they had different sized drain pipes to boot. This would be the discharge. With different sized entry and exit pipes and different sized tanks how will they stay balanced? This imbalance is what will/can shorten the life of a non matched up bank. The farther you are away balanced the more than likely the shorter the batteries lifespan.
