Might be buying a jeep..... Need advice

if you can't afford to fix it, how can you afford to put money toward aftermarket parts:confused:
Birthdays, Xmas, whatever. Just saying the option is there

if your gonna really test it find a nice muddy dirt road and get after it....something you have to put it in 4 low to get out of //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I would like too. But its not mine yet.

OP : If you're like the drivers around here with the TJ's, you might want to check just how top heavy this thing is, especially with a lift on it. Being a part of a fire department, and having an interstate in my district, I know they don't fair too well in the winter and with soft tops. (Moronic drivers around here with 4x4's think they are invincible.)
Hmm...... I dont even know what to say to this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Nope... Its a soft top. I'm cool with that. My car that died was an 88 pathfinder with a broken window and no heater.
From what I read, this has an incredible heater in it.. Major plus. Only downfall I can find in this is a dead spot on the pedal. I wont be taking this on long trips, so no problems at all!
Soft Tops are loud as **** on the freeway. Be prepared for that.

LMAO at the heater comment. The only reason someone would say that it has an incredible heater in it, is because the TJ was the first time that Jeep figured out how put a good heater in the Wranglers. Ask any YJ or CJ about their heater and they will respond with, "what heater?"

Don't know about this one, but we have a XJ with a 3" lift and 33" tires and it rides like absolute shit, not even fun to drive long distance at all. The 4.0L doesn't have enough power at highway speeds either.
XJ's are much heavier than TJ's. The 4.0L straight six is probably the best engine ever put in a Jeep and it hauls *** on the freeway. Sounds to me like you didn't get yours re-geared to compensate for the lift and larger tires. And they aren't supposed to drive like a Cadillac when you lift them and put large meats on them.

TJ's are fun, but thats about it. They dont have much room and really cant be used as a DD, especially with 33s. What motor does it have? 4.slow? if it does have the inline 6, then it is pretty much guaranteed to last another 200,000 miles if it has been taken care of and you take care of it. I own a jeep, and to me, jeeps are like hondas. They all have their problems, but are so **** easy and cheap to fix that it doesnt really matter. I'd say buy it if its just a weekend car, but its up to you.

Why couldn't it be a DD with 33's?

My XJ was driven as a DD for almost 2 years with them, and I'm now looking for 35's.

Sure, it isn't the best ride, but it's a Jeep, not a Caddy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You're right about the I6 though, my '88 lasted 19 years before it needed a rebuild and even then it was only the seals and bearings that needed to be replaced, we just did the rings since it was out already.

Too bad SM is banned right now, he can't unleash his great jeep knowledge on to you. Maybe tappin will see this thread.
I was going to say the exact same thing but //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif if you hit a tree your jeep will lose atleast it did for TA.

you need to test the 4wd before buying it...if its messed up it could cost several $1000 to repair....
Tested it at my house today. We have a huge gravel pit I took it in...4x4 works great.

I would be perfect fine with the top if I had real ****in doors, but the half doors blow. But its a small sacrifice for the deal I can score with this. Oh really? Haha, well at least it has one.....

Yes, the straight six I think is an awesome engine today after roughing it a bit and some high way driving.

Well only DD in the winter, so room doesnt matter. Yup, straight six. Been well taken care of.

Yeah, see my [girl] friend at school has a new 06, I think maybe '07 jeep. Anyways, I dont care. But I am going to lift it, and get some big knobbies on it to make it stand out from the crowd you know.
