Mids sound terrible in Infinity Reference mids?

My setup is an Eclipse CD8455 head unit, Infinity Reference 6.5" mids and 1" tweeters up front, and Infinity Reference 4x6" plate speakers in the back. The head unit goes through the tweeters' crossover and power them, and I have a Lightning Audio B2.400.4 amp powering the 6.5's and 4x6's. Even at low volume, the mid bass sounds terrible. Say there's a voice in the background, when the bass hits, the voice disappears completely and all you can hear is the distorted bass. The amp is rated at 45w RMS per channel, which should be enough to make it sound not too badly, but as of now it just sounds terrible. The amp was once hit by a 12v+ battery lead, which smoked a ground inside of the amp, but I replaced it with a new 8 ga ground, although the amp worked fine without it. Is the amp toast or just crappy?

Thanks for any replies.

I think you should just get a new (or new to you) amp. Also, don't bother using deck power, not even for tweeters. Is this an Infinity reference 6.5" component set with a x-over?? If so just run that with 2 channels and your 4x6s with the other 2 channels.
