you said 8inch midbassis too big, is 6 or 7 inch ideal??

my original idea was to have Germs in front and SLC in the rear both running from a ArcAudio 600.4 amp. i want some sound coming from the rear couse i want that ambience and depth in my music.

For now ill go with your idea , get the germs for the front, no rear and the sub in the trunk.

BlackMaxima, i have a 98 maxima and i have my installation on friday. Im going to go with some components upfront and probably add rearfill to it to add that ambiance. I know exactly what you are reffering to about it helping the front stage and this is why i prefer rearfill aswell. It all depends on the car aswell. I will let you know how it plays out. Keep me updated on your setup.

subs in the rear door would be slick, if you didn't want to give up trunkspace

but if your objective is to use your rear speakers to play midbass that your front drivers aren't already producing, you're gonna notice it, there's no 'blending' involved if your front drivers are severely lacking, you're just downright replacing your midbass output with your rears, and it's gonna be nasty

i tried it, and i'm currently saving to redo my front stage, because it wasn't cutting it

just trying to save you some time, it sounds WEIRD

"Ambience and depth" doesn't come from rear speakers, it comes from properly installed and tuned front speakers (and that doesn't mean just installing them in the stock door locations with some sound deadening).

Pour time and patience into mounting the front speakers. Make the mount as strong as you can, a mount that moves is a mount that loses energy that you should be getting in the form of sound.

i've never, literally, never, had a GREAT door speaker install, tho

hopefully i've read and read and read and read enough to get me where i want to be

a few weekends of work, and a few hundred in parts will be well worth it, tho, if it makes driving that much more enjoyable.....

currently, my daily drive includes being bummed out by how crappy my $900 xxv-04s sound in their 1/2 *** install

"Ambience and depth" doesn't come from rear speakers, it comes from properly installed and tuned front speakers (and that doesn't mean just installing them in the stock door locations with some sound deadening).

i want to keep the inside as stock as possible. The only place i have to install it is in the stock location. I know a kick panel is the way to go , but thats not something i can do and still have a stock look inside the car. Ill tune it myself, i have no problem doin that. Ive been playing piano for the last 12 years, soo i have a eat for sound.

what he meants is taking the time to seal the door to keep the rear wave from cancelling out the front, and adding proper damping to prevent rattles and resonances

factory stereos (bose included) don't place heavy (read: any) emphasis on proper mid to lower midrange frequency response from the door drivers, and hence, don't exactly design the car around providing an ideal environment for speakers inside the doors

this is where you come in, you have to dampen the door, and seal off any holes that would allow air/sound/vibrations to pass between the cabin and the inside of the door, as well as making sure that the speaker itself is sealed, and mounted correctly to prevent any vibrations, or air from passing around the mounting location, whether or not this required mounting an MDF baffle between the speaker and the door.

i would bet 99% of people don't do any of these things, and this is the reason why you can take ANY high-end driver out there, available to purchase, type it into the search box, and find dozens of complains about it, and how it "doesn't sound any better than my $20 pioneers"

it's the install. improper door speaker installation is no different than buying an $800 subwoofer, and hooking it up without a box.

Thats good advice thx alot. im going to take the time and do that. ive already made up my mind about the speakers. i wanna get a 3 way rainbows, ill talk to

6spdcoupe about the speakers. just have the 3-ways in the front and forget the rears. ill put some extra time to adding proper damping to the doors
