Midbase Question ?

I just finished my install. It consists of the following:

2004 Dodge Cummins 2500 Quadcab

1 JL Audio 300/4 amp

1 JL Audio 500/1 amp

2 JL 10W3V2-D4 subs

Diamond M6 6.5 Mids/Tweets

Pioneer DEH-860P HU

I would like to know how i can get a little more midbase out of the system ? I did not Dynamat the door and there are some large holes in the door, would this cause my mids to not put out as much as they should ? My factory 6X9s put out more base than these 6.5s. Can i use the crossovers to push a little more ? Looking for some solutions ? Other than the midbase the system turned out awesome. The custom fibreglass worked excellent. Very happy so far.

Be careful feeding them watts. I always found that my JL audio XR 6.5 could not provide enough mid bass with 150 RMS (V12) in the door of a 4 runner. They blew. More bass you could create some kickpods or some type of enclousure for your midbass drivers that should help dramatically.

Yes. You should notice improvement if you add a few layers to your outer doorskin, and layer the inner door skin with it as well, and use the sound deadener to cover the holes in the door (you want it as sealed as possible).

Most car systems I hear are lacking in midbass, including mine. When I put my Kappa 6 1/2s in sealed enclosures in the doors, I got a huge improvement in midbass, but it still could be a lot better. I think my problem is I just need some better mids...

You could get some dedicated midbass drivers. I'm doing an install for a friend of mine with Diamond Audio Hex 5.25s in the stock location in the doors, the doors are pretty well sealed up with Dynamat behind the mids, and they don't have a whole lot of midbass alone. I had a pair of Kicker 8" midbass drivers sitting around, so we built some fiberglass parts to mount them in the rear, and it sounds really good for having no sub-bass. I almost wish I kept them for myself. He's running 75wrms to all of them from a PG amp. You can definitely tell the midbass is coming from behind you though. Sometime next week we'll start on 2 10" Diamond M6 subs in fiberglass in the trunk.
