Memphis PR15's

Built the bigger box. After sub displacement, I ended up with around 3.75 - 3.85 cubes, and stuffed it with polyfill. Not quite what I wanted, but a lot better than what I had.

Sounds a helluva lot better now, and a helluva lot louder than the single Type R 12" was.

Running them off a Memphis PR500...so 500 wrms with them wired to 1 ohm.

Same as my R was getting.

I'm slightly tempted to get a bigger amp...

If they won't get much louder going to a larger amp, I won't bother.

It's loud enough to keep me happy now anyway....atleast for a while. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

x2. Ive dealt with a few memphis setups and theyll take alot more power than they rate them for, especially sealed. I built a box for my buddys 2 PR 15"s which was seperate chamber, 2.4 cubes each, and they got loud as hell. They were only seeing about 500wrms, and couldve taken more. I tried them out on my M1000 and they could almost handle it without bottoming out so you had to be easy on the gain. Id go with 800-900. Maybe an older alpine M850 if you can find one.

Found a deal on a new Powerbass ASA1000.1D, and couldn't pass it up.

I thought the PR15's were pretty loud on the Memphis PR 500, but with 1k watts, they get LOUD.

Might get the truck metered soon just to see what it's doing...

I'll see what I can do about some vids later.

Just blew one of them. They weren't bottoming out, and didn't sound like it was clipping...just a bit too much power on them I guess.

Gotta see if the local shop is going to warranty it for me, and I'll go from there. If no warranty, I'll likely end up switching brands, and go with a single 15 that will handle 1k watts.

We'll see...

If you bought them from a shop, they should give you a new one right away.

You put 500 rms watts on a 250 watt sub and thought it won't blow? lol, sorry. But yeah, it sucks man. I wouldn't go past like 300, 350 with them.

After seeing a few reports of 500 rms per sub, and the sub living for decades like that (exagerating a little //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ), I was hoping those people weren't lying. They were. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Sub was warrantied. No questions asked...thankfully...so they didn't make me lie to them on how it blew. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Got it in, and backed the gain down a hair. No problems after around 3 hours of play time on them, so hopefully they'll live like that for a while.

Thinking about changing boxes yet again. If I build the box up to the window line, I can build a slot ported box at around 4.8 - 4.9 cubes. Didn't originally want to go that high with the box, but I'm itching to have a LOUD single cab truck with 15's in it.

Think ~4.8 cubes would be enough space for a pair of 15's? I MIGHT be able to squeeze out another .25 cubes, but it'll be tight...

Probably tune to around 30 hz.

I'm sure they'll like it enough. My 12s were in a 3.5 box and they loved it.

The tuning...i'm not so sure of......they don't like to be tuned that low, if it was me, i'd tune it to 38 but the lowest i'd go would be around 34, 35. IMO.

If you want it to be loud but still hit those low notes, tune it between 35 and 38 and you'll be happy.
