What is a cartridge? I've never heard of a speaker being called a cartridge. Is it a part of a subwoofer? Like is it the motor assembly?

I've been playing with audio gear for over 20 years, but I'm not even 100% sure what cartridge means, certainly not something I seen mentioned for subs, and if I did, wasn't often. If I were to guess, I'd say a recone for said model. That's the only thing I can think of to perhaps call a cartridge since it's replaceable?
