MDF wood Wieght?

MDF is basically a mixture of fine wood fibers and a binder that's pressed into plywood-like sheets. Since MDF has no "grain", it's very stable. The sheets are flat and will stay that way. And with carbide-tipped bits and blades, it machines smoothly and easily. Topping it all off,
This is all I can find., but doesnt say thickness

MDF is relatively inexpensive. Some drawbacks to MDF are its weight (a 4'x8' sheet will weigh ~90 lbs) and water resistance. MDF is more moisture tolerant than particleboard, but WILL swell upon contact with water.

MDF DUST IS TOXIC! CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO AVOID INHALING IT. BREATHING PROTECTION IS A MUST WHEN WORKING WITH THIS MATERIAL. EFFECTS OF INHALATION ARE EXTREMELY HARMFUL TO YOUR HEALTH
some of ur info is correct

mdf is more glue than wood which makes it toxic..nobody wanted mdf in there system it makes it hard to breath

The primary drawback to this product is weight. A 3/4" x 4' x 8' sheet can weigh as much as 70 to 90 pounds per sheet. The density of the core is expressed as the weight of a one cubic foot (1'x1'x1') block of the material. Therefore, an MDF sheet using a 48# (pound) core, will weigh 96 pounds. (48"x96"x3/4"= 2 cubic feet)

MDF is toxic and remains toxic even if you don't cut it. It contains/releases formeldehyde (sp), a well known carcinogen (sp) so you may benefit from sealing it with resin. Polo..

I built boxes professionally for over a year. Day in and day out breathing that sh*t....and I'm not dead. It's not like its going to kill you if you're just messing with it on the weekends, but long-term constant exposure can't be good for you.

Then again, it can't be any worse than a pack-a-day cigarette habbit (that hasn't killed me either).

As far as the weight thing goes, I just looked up one of my old shipping invoices for a pallet of 3/4" and 1" MDF. 1 pallet (50 sheets) of 3/4" goes at 4853lbs including the pallet itself. The 1" stuff goes at 6053lbs, which leads me to believe that the 53lbs was the weight of the pallet.

So if 50 sheets of 3/4" weighs 4800lbs, that's 96lbs per sheet. 1" clocks in at 120lbs per sheet (which, amazingly enough is exactly 1.25 * 96!)

Now masonite (which was always my favorite building material for woofer cabinets) is a whole different story...a pallet of the 1" stuff was well over 3.5 tons.

Let me weigh a sheet. I always thought it was around 80 lbs. Walks upstairs to get scale......walks back downstairs with scale.......lifts a 1/4 sheet and places it on scale....... 23 lbs....lifts sheet # 2...... 23 lbs.

So I have a 92 lb sheet. Thats heavier than I thought it was. Explains why I felt weaker than a 10 year old girl trying to get the sheet on the cart.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

i really wouldnt feel that bad lol

the weight of it doesn't make it hard to lift. its the obnoxious size and shape that makes it a very difficult job for a one man crew lol...been there done that more than a few times...it sucks.
