MB Quart QSD Active or not?

Right now I am in the process of putting together a system. So far I have decided to get a set of QSD 216, but I do not know if I should go active or passive. With all of the tuning capabilities of active is it a no brainer for these speakers? Basically, what I am asking is it really worth it to spend the extra money to go active?

I would venture to say there will be a difference in 95%+ of the components when you go from passive to active. Like you said, the tuning capability is what makes active shine. Crossover point is critical and in a car, not every passive will work well. Not to mention you have the ability to attenuate the tweeters and mids far more than what you can do with the passive (sometimes, passives only offer 0db, -3db, etc). This helps because you are able to adjust intil the tweeters and mids blend in well without one overpowering the other.

I dont know anyone that regrets jumping from passive to active.

Have you ever tuned an active setup?

I'd say buy 'em and run 'em. You just might be surprised. If you feel like more flexibility, then buy the processing power (and/or a second amp) to run 'em actively and go from there.

It's hard to decide until you've heard them ran passively -- which WILL sound very good.

My thoughts exactly....and if you do decide to can the passives let me know as I will frame them babies b/c they are a work of art IMO:p:

Ok I am going to start out passive and master this setup because I really do not know much about the active setup. When I do go active I have a few questions. Would I want to use the crossover in the eclipse cd8455 headunit or should I use an external crossover? Or does it even matter? Thanks for your help, it has been very useful.
