Hey everyone! Hopefully this thread is in the right place. I've placed the n00bie alert for those of you who don't like to read n00bie posts lol and also to let you all know that this is my very first audio setup I've ever done. I will probrably have a lot of questions. So far I've done my best to use the search feature instead of posting new threads though!

This is posted here in the general section as a worklog type thread so be assured this thread will be updated periodically.

------

I've done a lot of the mods that I've wanted to do to the car this year. Now I'm in the mood for some audio modding.

This is called:

Project: Maxxed-Out

An old pic for refrence

max2ow7.jpg

Picked that as a title since all of this is going into a Maxima, and it's gonna cost a whole lot...otherwise it just sounds cool.

I plan on going to Nashville in July for the Import Alliance Meet and have this done by then.

Right now I have the stock Bose system which came with the 2003 Maxima. It's suffering from cd skipping and speaker cutting out issues. So I decided to go ahead and swap it out!

On my list of things to get/do by July:

Viper791xv Car Alarm

Fi Q 15" Subwoofer

2- Amplifiers (Class D Mono + 4 Ch.)

Wiring Kit

Rainbow SLC / Rainbow Germaniums 6.5"

Custom 2.3 Cu Ft Subwoofer Box

Pioneer Premier DEH-P880Prs Headunit

Sound Deadening

I'd say my budget is around $500...but I'm getting things as I get the $. All the things listed will run about ~$2000 if I buy new and get enough sound deadening.

Here are pics for those who enjoy worklogs with images lol.

Fi Q 15" Subwoofer came in this week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Purchased from FiQ's website.

Here you can see the basket and motor structure.

Then the ClassD Mono 1100W amplifier...got it the same week. I'll be running the sub at 1ohm.

Oh and some amplifier pr0n for the guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've almost got everything. The only few things left to get are A LOT of sound deadening probrably from Second Skin Audio, 1/0 Awg wiring kit, and the Pioneer P880prs headunit. The alarm + custom box will be done by the installer so I will still need around $600~ for that.

I've already ordered a set of speaker spacers and the 2 channel Pioneer amp to run the frontstage...Those should be coming in this week.

For now here are pics that I took today of things that I've recently recieved.

Okay I've got a set of component RCA cables. These will have to do since they're shielded and all that fun stuff. Cost was $40 for 2 of em.

The dash kit from American International...and metra wiring harness. Both of which were $43 together.

Next up are the Rainbow SoundLine 6.5 component speakers. AKA Rainbow SLC265. Got them used for a niice deal and they look great. Price was $185 orignally $230.

That is all for now everyone! Hopefully I can keep the updates coming, but this is going to be a very long worklog.

Comments are ALWAYS appreciated! Thanks!

where you get them?

dang gotta get my hands on some rainbows...heard they were bad

They're in the Home Audio section of Best Buy. They're about $20 each, I got 20ft since they didn't have 15 and 12 was too short. If you can find open item ones go with em...they're marked down a few bucks, but the more you save the more you can spend on other things.

I was really unsure of getting these at first...but a friend of mine suggested that these were basically the same thing used in car audio. They just mark up the prices on monster cable. We'll see once I get it all installed.

A lot of people on maxima.org were into the Rainbows so I thought well if everyone is talking about them being good then maybe they are?! Kind of like the whole Fi hype going on right now.

Just incase you didn't know Don here sells the Rainbow line and he's authorized.

I really used to be into the whole, well it's not name brand "aka JL, Alpine, Pioneer, Audiobaun" so it's probrablly not as good. But I've personally heard the non-commercialized gear and it sounds really good if not better than all of em.

Oh yah I know about that already lol it already rattles with the 6.5" Bose subwoofer! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

At least I won't be entering in any comps. Just want some good SQ so that's why I know the sound deadening will be a lot of $$.

I'll be getting about 80sq ft from SSA of Damplifier. That is to do the trunk, trunk lid, rear deck, and doors. A lot of layering in the trunk. Otherwise the floors I will leave alone until I get more $ to buy another 80sqft the floor doesn't bother me as much as trunk rattle.

Even with 80sqft, it'll still rattle.

My friend has the same car with 2 12" RL-p's ported, it rattles so much and he even deadened it. His rear deck was flapping so much we had to shove a towel in there to keep it from doing so from all the bass.

Bad car for bass.

Yeah it sucks, but I'd have to try and deal with it somehow...Can't change my car just because of the bass rattles.

I would have to take that suggestion to put something on the rear deck. Maybe some sort of deadening foam.

As long as it doesn't sound like this...

I will be happy lol. A little rattling I can deal with.

Worse than that..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
Nah you gotta be kidding!?

Lex has a Brahma 15 in a sealed box and I've heard it...it doesn't rattle like that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

He also doesn't have that much deadening in the trunk.

if you want... i can install the alarm for you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif i live in Nashville TN //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Got someone local that can install the Viper 791xv for $460 (includes the 791) that also does audio installs. Soo....it's gonna be pretty hard to beat that price.
