max power???

why do I keep seeing amp specs that say the max power is really high, then the specs under it say much lower even at bridgeand 1 ohm. An example is the boss blx 3500m. Says max power is 3500w. Then it says 2000x1@1ohm. It is not .5ohm stable, so how do you get another 1500?

doesnt anyone know the answer. Its not just boss, I see it on the orion specs as well as some other good brands.

Well, it doesn't give the max power in terms of RMS. The main specs are just the RMS, max power is how much energy you'll get when you hit really hard. You can be running at a steady 1000 watts rms to each speaker until they hit really hard and **** max power out of the amp.

RMS=root mean square if you dont know= whats important and basically what your amp is going to be pumping out to your subs

max power is what gets the sales the most for companies like Sony, "oh wow man, it's 1200 watts!" the kids will be like pushin more like 200 or 300 out of that sony amp, don't fall in that trap, focus on the RMS and you'll be fine.

maximum power is one of the worst money drop traps in car audio. always look at the rms spec. besides boss wouldnt even put out 1000 rms lol.

Yeah max power is a marketing scam. It makes Sony look really good, because for 1/10 th of a second there amps produce 1200 Watts or w/e. When in reality they are only producing 400 watts or something like that constantly. My cousin bought this nice, fancy type r 12'' and he had a sony explode amp with it, and he figured he was going to get 1200 watts out of it, I didn't say anything I didnt want to make him mad.

I dont say anything to anyone that tells how many watts they run nowadays cuse its always max power. I dont want to bother wasting my time explaining it to them cuse most of them dont want to feel retarded for spending so much money on crap.
