I know. My point was:
English is to math as stat is to any specific facet of the language.

How can anyone answer your specific question if you don't give it to us.

before i type out a long *** story problem i wanted to know if anyone was "familiar" with hypothesis analysis using t test... if someone would say yes then i would continue by asking the story prob.

The null hypothesis is that the mean waiting time stays at 5 minutes.

The alternative hypothesis is that the mean waiting time is less than 5 minutes.

You'll need to calculate the standard deviation for the rest of the problem. Also, you need to figure out if the data is strongly skewed. If it is, this problem is stupid and will not accurately represent the population and any answer you give will be meaningless due to the tiny sample size.

after that, your formula is t = [mean of the sample - mean of the population] / [(standard deviation)/(sqrt sample size)]

We used different terminology in my class so "decision rule" is

EDIT: the test statistic is just the t-value. you'll have to find the p-value from that and then compare it to the level of significance to determine whether or not you can accept the alternative hypothesis.

buttt i know that stuff i just didnt know what the hell the actual answer was i found the sample standard deviation as just sq root (.5)(1-.5)/((10)) i think...ill look over it again when i get home from work..its jsut the dbad never gives us all the info needed..if he gave would just give me the ****in standard deviation id be set
