Massive SQX

Hmm, didn't know thay did, I have a DMX and it sounds great IMO, great SQL driver.
Every time I come across a massive thread somebody equates it with cheaper brands... And how " when I had a massive amp it blew up bla bla bla "

I thank that Massive makes fine products //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Maybe if every thread has someone saying their massive product failed...

if it sounds too good to be true its usually it... mass is the killer of every thing that is set in motion.... more mass=less efficiency... hence light travels at the speed it does... light has no "at rest mass" its travels along particals . vary the density/mass of the particals lights speed is altered.. same for everything else... very few woofers have an efficiency of 1%...
Mass has nothing to do with woofer speed if that's what you are after, if not, I can't see what's intended:confused:

NO and YES... more mass means to get a given acceleration requires more force.... also more mass means higher inertia, where requires lower compliance for the same dampning.. IF mass didn't matter efficiency in woofers would be WAY higher(and everything else)... your going to give me the old INDUCTANCE IS KEY speach ill break it down for ya really quick...

MMS goes up CMS has to go down to keep the same dampning(depending on the desired bandwidth and dampning desired)

don't get me wrong more mass isn't nessicarlly a bad thing but IT DOES lower a transduccers Efficency and alters bandwidth... for instance even thought the inductance is low getting a JL w3 to play 10000hz is just very inefficient sure it will but becase the xmax isn't needed (added mass for a given compliance) which lowers the efficiency hence your going to get very poor output and reduced dampning.. this is very much like an inductor in a electronics... the added mass acts alot like a crossover the higher mass means the motor has to beable to change its direction many many more times a second... this simply requires higher motor strength.. Like you said it can be done but your going to sacrficae bandwidth to maitain a given efficiency... increase motor strength on the w3 2 fold sure it can over come the added mass and stiffer suspesion but at what cost? less lowend and lower compliance which alters efficiency... transiant response isn't only high high the driver will play, too much dampning and low frequency efficiency is altered... look at a driver with a QES of .25 and FS of 25 then .55 and 25.. the increased motor strenght here is bad for the added mass.. depends on what you want to do...

you can't just design a low inductance highly linear driver and forget about other elements of the drivers design... proof is in the pudding...

(aka

saying it does correlate to transiant response is a lie because every part of the drivers design has to be acount for and designed with the same goals in mind...

if you designed a high output sealed box woofer you wouldn't want a low xmax low FS low Q driver... it doesn't make sense... if you wanted a ported box driver(high output) you wouldn't want a high Q high MMS low FS high xmax driver..

ultimatly as you travel faster displace more air more acoustical pressure is excerted on the cone, not only causing distortion throught movement in the cone but coil rocking added mass make the increased displacment and pressure decreases efficiency... i think you need to look into some 200 year old LAWs..
