marijuana may be legal in cali soon

That's why they call it the gateway drug. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
Suppose you could say the same of Alcohol or Cigarettes as they are both addictive substances. Whats the difference except that Marijuana is illegal? Take the crime out of it and it'll be just like drinking - not more "Well, I'm breaking the law anyway, lets do some crack too." IMO.

How is it not?90% time it is the first drug somone tries, and yea it makes them more likely to try something else.
Do u smoke pot? How many potheads have u seen doing completely retarded shit like drunk people do? When u see drunk retards on tv fightin, do u ever see a pot head do it? No b/c high people are just mellow, they dont even feel like fightin. Im just sayin, ive smoked pot and i have noooooo want to try anything else.

Maybe some people are born drug users/addicts because they have addictive personalities, and MJ is not the gateway drug, its just the first/easiest one they could get their hands on to try.

Some people start out doomed for failure, before weed or any drug. Harsh but just how some people are.

Legalizing weed may make the state of CA a fatter state though...damn those munchies

If someone is an addiction prone individual there is no reason that marijuana would be more likely to push them towards other drugs than alcohol or cigarettes - both equally if not more addicting substances. The only difference is that two are legal and one is not - perhaps leading to, "Well, while I'm at it..." mentality.

I've never smoked anything in my life - cigarettes or marijuana - so I'm not just some pot head that wants it legal. I just think it is ridiculous that we keep sending people to jail for smoking some marijuana. The illegality also encourages crime and violence to spring up around the illegal selling of the substance - just like prohibition of alcohol.

Very well said.

The only other thing I would point out towards its illegality is the fact that people try it and soon realize they have been lied to so much about it, so that could lead to 'crack cant be that bad can it?'

yeah weed isnt the gateway drug. i'd def say its alcohol or tobacco that one tries before anything else. i just happened to smoke before trying something else because it was what was available, but if its legal, i'm pretty sure the majority of people would rather just stick with weed's mediocre high than move on. If it was legal, i'd do it instead other stuff as well.
