Manual for everyday driving?

thats an understatement... and the clutch is HEAVY, and you have to have it to the floor to go between gears... and for some reason, i still love it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
the gearbox feels like it is full of rocks, and i wouldnt trade it for any other car.

i almost wonder if the techs at nissan wanted it to feel like an old school sports car. because when you drive it, you its raw, and rough, and you know its not an ordinary car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
yup. the first time i drove a 350z i pushed down on the clutch and expected it to feel like my current explorer...

it felt like my first explorer instead. just a stiff as hell clutch. took me a while to get used to it thats for sure.

Manuals are a lot more fun for me, besides I feel more in control.I pretty much learned how to drive with a standard, so it doesn't bother me at all.

Just practice, that's all I can tell you.Hills aren't that bad once you learn em'.

from everyone ive talked to that had a manual, they love it
so stock clutch isnt that bad, but if you get an aftermarket it makes it harder in traffic and drive throughs etc?
stock evo clutches are quite a bit stiffer then a honda civic clutch but not bad...just alot more pressure pusshing out then a honda which has none...be prepared to replace the clutch in an evo fairly soon(5-10k) miles of driving if your not very good or learning...its just the nature of the beast leaing on a sports car with a clutch that has a somewhat tricky engagement...

on a hill ive heard somethign about using the parking brake and finessing the gas or something, not my cup of tea:(
take the long way around to get away form hills //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
When I was learning on hills, I was taught a few methods. #1: Parking brake and gas #2: Let the clutch out some so it'll grab a little bit #3:Heel - toe method from brake pedal to gas. Find which one works best for you and practice the hell out of it.

Don't be afraid of the hills lol.

i have a 2002 honda civic si. it only comes in 5spd. i absolutly love it. i learned on the car, and now that i know it i wont ever go back.

the only time i dont like it is when im sick or something. other then that, even in traffic i dnt mind it.

never will go back.

don't know if it's been said or not yet, but basically what it all boils down to, is are you a man?
if you don't like m/t, you're either a female, or a big pussy
i love stick....but i will disagree with you by a long shot.

as much as i love my manual truck, there are times when sitting in traffic for 2 hrs with a stick is shitty. especially when your 6' 5", your seats all the way back, and your chair has to tilt back so you can sit comfortably, and you have to basically get up out of your seat just to shift gears.

when im in traffic and i drive my girls auto mitsubishi mirage, and i just have music playing, and my head leaned back against the head rest with three fingers on the wheel, i think "man i would love for my truck to be an auto, when i hit traffic like this"

i know what you mean about comfort sometimes, i'm 6'4'' and i drive a 79 beetle, so i don't exactly have a lot of room. and i drive 45 minutes to and from work everyday(that's in good traffic) and every now and then, i think to myself "man, can i please just get out of first gear this is annoying" but whenever i drive someone elses car that's an automatic, i hate it. when i had my 300zx, that was an auto, and i hated not being in full control of my shifts, so once i found out that i had to sell it because it was a piece of shit, i drove it like a stick anyway, from 1 to 2 to 3 then to D lol.

point of post? i only don't like driving a stick about 5% of the time i'm driving.

i think everyone should "learn" to drive with a manual. i did and i think it makes me alot better driver and still do drive stick for the last 10years...... i drive a civic daily 5spd and just test drove 08 xterra with 6spd. dotn see myself ever driving manual unless im old

I have been driving stick most of my driving life. Mom taught me, but she is like a nascar driver, lol! I have had over 20 plus cars in the 16 years I have been driving and say probably 85% of those were stick. You have more control over your car when you slide not to mention the transaxel stops spinning if you put it in N. In auto, even in N it keeps spinning, which is no good if in a spin. Course 9-10 times you want to try and steer your way out of it if you slide anyway. Also others have mentioned, better passing power, (A lot depends on what type of vechichle you are getting) usually better gas mileage unless you are spirited driver like myeself. Sticks tend to last longer as well, buttttt, if you can't drive stick like my one buddy then you could go through transmissions pretty fast. He replaced his in his truck twice in one year...........yes twice, lol!

Downfalls would be being stuck in traffic a long time or construction, which we have a shit ton around my area. I have a bad habit of resting my foot on the clutch, which becomes tiresome after while. Humm, that is about all I can think of right now. Honestly after you drive stick so long it becomes almost like driving an automatic. Then again sometimes I wish I had an auto too, lol! Beggers can't be choosers!

Depends on: Car, mechanic, parts, anything extra that needs to be done; typically a standard clutch job with OE equipment should run you $500 - $1000, 500 being local mechanics/garages, $1000 being the dealer.

how much is it to replace the stock clutch?

it is all I will ever drive. Auto's **** *** off road.
I haven't read through all 5 pages but this caught my eye in the beginning. When it comes down to it, a real off-roader wants an Automatic. I dont use Auto because I dont like automatics but what it boils down to, is you have more control when you can work the brake and the throttle at the same time. Most guys with Manuals are moving over to Hand Throttles..

Now, to me manuals are better for everyday driving. I dont know why I just like them. its a personal preference. Iv been driving one for so long that I dont even realize im pushing in the clutch and shifting. Its all automatic in my head. I do so without thinking. So when i get into heavy traffic, it doesnt bug me. However, my mom has had a manual of some sort since she was 18...At 50 she preffers an auto in heavy traffic.

My truck ( sorta daily driver , i drive it when i feel like it ) is a manual and its fun to drive, but driving a stick would get old sitting in traffic, or if you live in the mountains like i do. Hills are unavoidable, but to be honest its not that bad. With a car like that you pretty much have to have a 5sp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
