... gorilla glue needs to die. a 45 rip on all 4 sides with a sparing about of rolled yellow glue will give you a hold that will bond tighter and stronger than the wood. i have used gorilla glue and it doesn't penitrate like yellow glue so it wont bond to all the fibers. and white glue sets up way to fast for a box build. any yellow glue will work, tightbond, elmers... same shit. I, II, III... doesnt matter. i have fabricated countless mdf mantles and used all sorts of glue and other bonding agents...use gorilla glue. it expands as it dries so it ensures a good seal. not to mention it makes a bond that is stronger than the mdf itself. you need to use screws tho so you get some clamping pressure.
epoxies vs. glue... doesn't matter, any yellow glue will do. i have fabricated many radius hand rails and skirt boards and epoxy is harder to use and does the same.
now for filling gaps, epoxy is great, cause yellow glue wont bond unless it is a tight fit... any gaps and all integrity is shot... one down side to yellow and white glue.
construction adhesive is probably the worst you can use unless it's pollyurithane... liquid nails is garbage.
pallyurithane will penitrate well into the wood but regular stuff is garbage. it is too thick to use so your joints will gap and your box will expand.
little fyi on glue.
