Mag v4 Production complete

In regards to all that time being spent behind FEA...just curious, still using stacked top plates of differing ID to get the xbl^2 notch gap?
Yep. That has little to do with time spent behind FEA, but yes the top plates are machined and then stacked to get the notch and the pole is machined (obviously).

Nick Wright does this every single time he releases his woofers. Speaking of which, are they up for his entire line of woofers yet?
Nope, they aren't. I can't speak for others, but this is not a case of me picking on you: I've publicly (and privately) disagreed with Nick from IA, Nick from Fi/AA, DD/AQ, and RD Audio about not providing Thiele/Small parameters.

I understand why companies do it, I just don't think they should. Some may be worried they'll lose a sale if someone declines to use their product based on the Thiele/Small parameters (which may be from a legitimate application problem or a lack of education); still, I will never buy something for which there are no Thiele/Small parameters available, so that's a lost sale to people like me (and Brad) anyways. Granted, we are probably a small group of people, but unfortunately we can be quite vocal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i agree....

of course.....

shorting rings.. how else they gonna fit in there?

very important component to reduce flux mod distortion

I leaked the T/S on Nick's forum... all T/S parameters = Chuck Norris on the new Mag...

But seriously...

In defense of Nick - besides wanting people to judge the driver based on it's sound in the recommended enclosure he wants the most accurate measurements possible to publish for public consumption - those from the Klippel machine.

I'll be the first to admit, since I do have a rough idea of the T/S specs, that it sounds differently than I would expect at first just going "by the book" on T/S specs. Once the driver is in the hands of customers they can share what it actually sounds like *before* the "masters of WinISD" argue about how they think it is going to sound before anyone has a driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just curious, how many XBL^2 equipped woofers that you know of used a shortening ring? It's not the ability of putting a ring inside the gap that he's after, he's after the motor topology of xbl^2.

I suppose we forgot how much stray flux is created we get when we do a 3-6 stack 8-10mm plates of varying ID's that are stamped out and glued together (every where there is a joint there is an air gap of glue between the plates which also causes stray flux all the way around the motor) instead of doing it the 'right' way instead of casting 1 piece?

Wiggins will swear up and down it doesn't effect anything...model it, look at the graphs and bars and see where the flux is going. Every where there is an air gap there is a 'spit' in the model that looks like you sprayed windex out of a bottle away from the motor which is, stray flux. If you zoom back out and look at the motor from a side view the output isn't in a parabolic form, looks more like a wave then anything instead of a concentration in a parabola as it 'should' technically be. But if you want to throw screws at it from different angles I guess it'd serve a purpose...but it's significantly cheaper then casting/tooling a top plate...which simply goes down to a cost/benefit standpoint.

Casting a notch out of a top plate from a design stand point is much better because it is one solid piece with no air gaps for flux to dance around randomly...you can still put a shortening ring in it if you feel you must because the notch in the gap would be there. However it is by far not as cheap as stacking thin top plates to get the desired gap height...

That's enough tech jargon for the day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

All I'm saying. I am actually considering buying a new mag, hell I may just buy old mags when all the kids are selling theirs for the new ones.

I've touted around Nicks product, talked to Nick, met Nick.... blah blah blah.

I'm with Devil Driver, I will not by a driver, any driver, anymore... without t/s parameters. I'm sure Nick is getting around to it, and eventually we'll get them. So I'm not riding his *** for them. I'm not in the position to buy subwoofers now anyway...

blah, blah, blah... I'm out.

we are in agreement that the sja products are decent:) but oddly, rd and atomic both **** as companies, lol.
AMEN! and both are as a result of Woo and his wife. lol

My fit setup will be a bm + 100.2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

steve at rd is a tard too..

nice:D all trolling/questions aside, i wont be purchasing a mag or a bm (if nothing else, neither of these products fit my application) but im sure those that do purchase will be fairly happy. i do worry that those that have a last gen mag, and expect a new improved woofer will not get what they bargain for (no matter how much nick says "this is a whole new direction") that isnt nicks fault. it is the consumers. i still would love to see them release the t/s specs (and again.. not just nick.. all comps. that dont do it..should) as its just..odd not to.. especially when you know that in the past said company has not had a problem releasing them. At any rate, poor little nicky here is getting all butthurt so ill leave him alone for a while.. seems that with the public shout for t/s he would listen., maybe not, it really doesnt matter to me:) Chad Hicks- please do let me know how your bm setup fairs.. im interested:D

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It may have a mag in it if i can fit it, but bm is probably the way it will end up

ps steve at rd isnt that bad of a guy, but when he has to deal with woo it makes him look that much worse, because when woo screws up, steve gets to eat it lol.
