I'm thinking of selling my car and have some damage done on my passenger door... It won't even close completly right because of the damage (pushed in) and there's a long scratch that's looking bad on it... Would Maaco be a good place for something like this, keep in mind that I'm selling my car so it has to look good enough to sell but can't be so expensive that I won't even earn money on selling my car. My car's also a 2002 Maxima if that matters...

for something like that, just do it yourself. since you're selling it it's not like you care how long it will last. go buy some duraglass and a gallon of bondo. have a GOOD bodyshop colormatch your paint, and just do it in like a day. then sell it, and by the time the bondo starts to shrink or the paint starts to age different, it will be out of your hands.

as for the original question at hand, no maaco is not good. even their best option is still mediocre at best, and since you're already paying in the 1k range, find a decent body shop to do it for you for around the same price.

There are types of paint which do not require a clear coat.These are known as single stage paints. They have a "clear coat" in them. It's pretty much shiney paint. Single stage paint jobs can look nice, but I'm sure you lose some durability over traditional clear coats.

i don't have any problem with singlestage paint in some cases. it would be perfect for a "cheap" showcar that doesn't ever get driven, and is always garaged while not at a show. not so durable though. I've put singlestage on some stuff and it looked flawless.

alright .. i have decided to stay away from maaco .. but still deciding where to get my whole car fixed at.
