MAACO body shop

Sorry to bring an old thread back alive .. so if you sand down your own car "prepping" it for the paint. The paint job will come out much nicer than not doing any of it?

We did the prep on my friends car and taped it all off when we got there so all they had to do was paint it and clear....it came out super nice one of the best spray jobs ive ever seen.
Cost him about $950

Does it have a green neon under body kit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Yes prepping definitely makes a big difference. But from what I understand Maaco also uses lower grade paint and their painters can be hit or miss.

It depends on what you are needing to do it for. It can be worth it just dont expect show quality finish that will last years.

Each manufacturer has several paint lines ranging in grade. If you stick with a good manufacturer, dupont, ppg, even their low line paints are solid and you can make a very nice paint job with them.

Prep work is really the decider between a good job and a shit one. Good body work and prep will make sraying go that much smoother and will ensure a good bond with the painting surface.

x2. Do some research online, I'm sure there are plenty of resources on prepping a car for paint. If you feel confident on doing the prep work yourself, that will save you some cash. I've had to redo several Maaco/cheap *** paint jobs at my old job..in the end you pay more for the cheapies since they dont last and you have to get it redone anyway. Do the prep work yourself, get quality paint and save up to have a good painter spray it. Well worth the investment in the end to have a quality paint job that lasts imo. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also it appears only their 1000 plus job includes a clear coat? I would never trust a paint job without clear. And for that price you can probably go elsewhere.
There are types of paint which do not require a clear coat. These are known as single stage paints. They have a "clear coat" in them. It's pretty much shiney paint. Single stage paint jobs can look nice, but I'm sure you lose some durability over traditional clear coats.

I'm thinking of selling my car and have some damage done on my passenger door... It won't even close completly right because of the damage (pushed in) and there's a long scratch that's looking bad on it... Would Maaco be a good place for something like this, keep in mind that I'm selling my car so it has to look good enough to sell but can't be so expensive that I won't even earn money on selling my car. My car's also a 2002 Maxima if that matters...
