MA Audio HK4000D powers on then goes into protection

Go get yourself a Kicker KX1200.1 or a similar 1000-1500 watt amp. The amp u are running is way to big if you dont want to buy batteries/// For a stock electrical setup the max i would ever run off of it would be 1000watts. Anything bigger U should really upgrade the electrical..

O and ya Ditch the capacitor as its just a huge waste of money... Get a battery

i do, but i dont wanna loose anymore truck space than i already have. its the short escalade so i already had to ditch the 3rd row just to fit the sub box in, and if i add batts ill loose all my cargo room.

Go with something smaller for now until you can get your electrical up. Id stick to what Korn said and only run 1000 watts or so. I used to have a 4 door deville and it had a decent electrical system for stock. I ran 1100 watts on it just fine.

i have 6 SVR audio batts from my truck i was going to make for SPL, but lost interest and sold truck. i just dont wanna install them. also my amp has been modified from MA audio to supposedly be able to run at 1 ohm

with that mod your now even more power hungry.. mine were also modded.. plus you may want to look into another amp cuz even if you do throw the batts in and give that amp the power supply it wants at 1 ohm you will blow those kickers to shit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I have a HK4000D and a V4000XD modded but I did the mods myself. If you keep on trying to run this amp on a stock electrical it is going to cook the power supply section of the amp and it will light on fire. These amps are current hungry because they have a unregulated power supply, I run my modded HK and the visonik around 17 volts and they have never went into protect. I'd say they put out over 5000rms @ 1ohm on a strong 16v electrical.

I sold my HK4000D a few months ago. Someone clamped it on 18 volts @ 1 ohm and it was getting roughly 2500 watts, pretty sad for a modded amp.

Have you clamped yours to see it getting 5K, or was that a guess?

It was a guess. I can't see a modded HK only doing 2500 rms at 18v at a 1 ohm load //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif. I've clamped it when it was not modded at around 17-18v and I was getting close to the rated 4000rms at around 2ohm and I used my oscilloscope, amperage meter and voltage meter.

Are you sure he clamped it at 1ohm and at 18v ? Maybe the impedance rise was really high with the box he used and he had a really low voltage drop.

I know the guy that tested it knows what he's doing, so it really surprised me to see that was all that amp was putting out. It wasn't my amp that was tested, but the identical amp and we bought them both off Bob Perillo. I remember Bob saying that even on 18 volts, with 60+ Kinetik 16V batts he wasn't getting the 4000 watts, granted there were 18 of these HK4000D's in there, but he still wasn't hitting 4K on them and he was dropping below 2 ohms. That was a big reason for me selling mine.

When I bought it from him he said that if I was ever going to run it daily then I should have at the very least a 200 amp alt, and at least two decent size batteries, at the very least.

I have 4 16v batts and a 250a alt charging at around 18v and the amp is 2 feet from my batts with 0/1 gauge wiring and i'm using the stock alt to power the rest of the car. When I had it around 2ohm or so I was seeing about 3700-3800rms. So I guess I should have said I'm seeing close to 5000rms not over 5000 when running at 1ohm. So maybe when it warms up here in Canada I'll clamp the HK at 1ohm and see what it's actually producing for power.

Something must have been wrong in the amps that are being tested down here, either that or they aren't clamping them right.
Maybe it was just a weaker amp that had poor solder connections and weak components, I know that they are massive current hogs and you need a strong 16-18v electrical for them to run properly without blowing up and to get good power output.
