Ma Audio amp issues

Hi, i have a ma audio hk-800d mono amp. I recently purchased an alpine cda-9813. Before i had a pioneer deh-p4400, so i went from 2v pre-outs to 4v pre-outs. On my amp it was an input sensitivity switch (wish my girlfriend had one of these) anyway my two options are .2Mv-2v and 2v-8v. When i swith to the higher of the two output is drastically reduced, as expected. So much so that when volume as at 25 out of 35 max, and gain all the way up and bas boost all the way up, there is almost no output at all. I don't want to run it out of spec or anything, but i also want good bass. Not a fricken ton or anything, just more then i get when on 4v setting.

Thanks

Also, in case you're wondering x-over on deck is set to 200mhz l/p 18db/oct. And x-over on amp is set similar.

don't use the x-over on the HU and use just the ones on the Amp.

Also the MA's don't do rated power untill you give them 17v.

Also your HU's volume is too high probably and that's why you'll get distortion.

Unhook the subs and play a cd and turn the HU volume up untill you hear distortion, once you hear distortion back the volume off a bit untill her is no more distortion.....this is your HU's max unclipped volume and it should not be turned up anymore then that so write the number of your HU's max unclipped volume down and use that volume while setting your gains with a 50Hz odb test tone.

Don't ever use bass boost, don't set the gain all the way up or your subs will go bye bye real quick like.

Again the MA's don't do rated power unless you run them off a 17v power supply and all cars have a 12.5v (Battery) and 14.4v (Alternator) power supply.

So your only option as I see it is keep the amp and upgrade your cars electrical for 14.4v to 17v or get rid of the amp and get one that does rated power at 14.4v.

The subwoofer output of the newer Alpine HUs has to be turned almost all the way up in order to achieve a decently high voltage ouput.

Have you tried turning up the sub volume on the HU? Say, +13 out of +15? The highest should be +15 if I remember correctly..

FWIW, at volume 25 out of 35, there really should be no distortion issues, unless you are running speakers off the HU's power. External amps should be gain adjusted so that 25 is within a safe operating range(no clipping).

I would choose which xover you're going to use, either the one on the HU, or the one on the amp, and go with it. I personally prefer using the HU xover because I can adjust it on the fly.

The current xover point seems quite high to me, I'd try closer to 100 hz, maybe even 80, depending on what sub setup you're using, how much power, what type of box, what type of car, etc.
