i have these visteon component speakers and i bypassed it's original crossover by using 3way mode on my hu.... but i never foudn out at which hz the mids were being cut at on the original xover, since theres nothing written anywhere and technical support doesnt know this information //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif ...

so i just picked 40hz for it, but im afraid now coz at high volumes the mid excurses like a ***** and it smells like burning rubber easily too...

what would be a good and safe cut for a mid in general? thanks

I assume you mean highpass, rather than lowpass, correct?

Anyways....try 60hz-80hz. Should be a little safer if it's having problems @ 40hz. And use a steeper slope if necessary.

not too many mids are able to handle a cutoff of 40hz with a shallow slope. The lowest I ever had my mids were at 63hz on a 3rd order slope.

Lol yeah...must have meant highpass. I'd recommend AT LEAST an 18dB/Oct slope at around 80hz...

It largely depends on the speaker, but lots play well down to 63hz, and if you get good midbass there then run it. I run mine down to 63hz now, but a lot of mids don't like playing that low. Also, typically the lower you want it to play, the more power it will take to do it acurately.
