Lower Freq ? Lower RMS ???

Ok , I have decided to build a 2 cubic ft box for both of my Orion P series, because they seem to be taking my HCCA 250 far to well in a sealed box. It's like their not as loud as I had expected and so it was suggested to me here to built a box for them and tune the pair to around 32hz. I only listen to rap, and thus said heres some food for the thought.

RMS of each subwoofer is 500WRMS, so 1000Wrms for the pair bridged.

the HCCA 250 puts out 800WRMS @ 12volts . So around 14volts I assume about 900Wrms.

Still less than what they say they can continuously handle. I have read threads where Orion H2's in a sealed box could handle 2000Wrms sealed, but I believe only 1500WRMS ported.

So I take from this if the manufacturers reccomended ported box is set to 50hz for my 10" P series Orions, they should be able to take 500WRMS each @ 50hz. Now thus said, WHEN the box is finished that I am currently building for them at 32Hz .. Will the power handling be much less ? Causing the 800WRMS output of my HCCA 250 to now be around perfect range of output to the subs ???

I know its ball park estimating.. the general point is will the RMS Decrease since I am going below the 50Hz manufacturers specs to 32hz ?

Wish I could comment on that one. I would like to know myself, good question. You might want to post this in: Enclosure Design & Construction Help

no. infact you would probably be more at risk with the box at 50hz. if your sub sonic filter was not set properly when you played lower tones the woofers would play as if they were being free aired. with a box at 32hz. you can set the sub sonic for around 28hz or so and make sure your gains are set correctly and you should be just fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Setting it at 28hz ?? Wouldnt that make anything 28hz and below go through ? plus or minus phase throuput of the crossovers imperfection? I am not comprehending. Wouldnt I want the box to hit from 20Hz to about 40Hz ? Then the bandpass filter cuts off all higher freqs ? The HCCA 250 has no built in crossover. I am waiting on my Pioneer DEH 78MP to come in ((heh heh heh color screen)) which has a built in 16 band EQ, and Subwoofer Crossover. I dont think it really goes lower than 50Hz though.

So thus said, the box would be hitting from 20 - 50hz ???? PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.. LOL I dont want my **&&*t jacked up. I want this to go right first time around.

What does one expect from 32Hz notes ??? I havent ever really gone ported before except for when I bought a hifonics brutus 1500D to power my PA mofo 12" subwoofer. It sounded like crap but man everything rattled LOL.

no setting the subsonic at 28 makes it so everything 28 and under will be highly attenuated. you could set your high pass for around 80-85 and be ok. set the high pass where you like the sound.

Sub sonic filters cut frequencies below the setting, so 28hz is the -3db point on a crossover graph. You then set the low pass filter to where you want the sub to stop playing up top.
