Low Tune / High Boost?

Has anyone here ever purposely tuned a box low, then added a little boost at higher frequency to obtain more of a flat response in a range vs a single peak?

For example, rather than tuning at 33hz and having a larger peak, tune at 28 and boost at 40+hz? I realize you would give up a few db in the middle, but would it sound better overall? Are there better ways to achieve this?

For that matter, how many of you use, or don't use any sort of EQ/boost on your subs?
