For subs? It keeps the high frequencies from coming out of the sub. My LP filter is set for 80 on mine.

Subs aren't designed to play high frequencies for a reason. You can use it without a low pass but it sounds like junk and the bass is no where near as clear/smooth as it is if you removed them.
