Low ohm amp to sub wiring

I need help, I've been installing car audio systems in my personal ride for ten years, but I still consider myself a rookie. All my experience has revolved around basic low end systems. Amp/sub systems, running of 4 ohm @ less than 300 watts. I'm very intrested in moving to the next level, but I'm scared of making a coastly mistake.

Here's a little history. I have been running my 1, Eclipse 12" 8712.4(4 ohm SVC) sub (in a band-pass enclosure) off a Fultron 150watt X2 Mosfet 16-0150M amp. I have 4 ga. power wire, with an Eclipse head unit that has 4 volt outputs. I've had this set-up almost 3 yrs. Recently, I fried the voice coil. What do you think I did, was it my hook-up, or did I just push it a little too far?

Now. I am ready to move up to the next level. But, I want to do it right this time. I have now purchased an Eclipse 9102, 4 ohm DVC (I'm just waiting for it to arrive fedex). I know now to go sealed enclosure (someone told me 0.8 cu. ft.).

What do you think?

I was told my amp is too small, I'll blow the sub (what do they mean?)

Second, what do you suggest for an amp(HCCA, Class D...etc.), how should I wire it (4ohm stereo, or 2 ohm mono)?

HELP !!!

It just wore out, or you weren't giving it enough power, and you were peaking the amp and sending voltage spikes into the sub.. which is no good.

Same problem as before man, except now you can't run the sub at 4 ohms any more. Because you bought a dual voice coil sub with 4 ohms on each coil, your only option is to run the sub at 2 ohms or at 8 ohms. Which I doubt the amp can handle.

You should purchase an amp that is stable at 2 ohms and gives an RMS power of at least 800watts. Your sub wants to use 750watts rms. A class D would be a great choice.

Those are all great choices! Although I tend to favor more of the exotic amps myself (zapco, arc, tru, DLS, brax, US, etc.). If you can pick up a Zapco for around 350-450, then you got a great deal. The amps are extremely underrated. You will not be disapointed with them. The same goes for all of the others too.
