Loudness...

So can somebody explain to me really what the "Loudness" feature does on the CD player. It usually has the "Low, Medium, and High" settings, or for cheaper decks "On". haha. Obviously it makes everything Louder, but...

When does it actually benefit to use it, and what exactly does it even do? :p

Currently I'm using a Pioneer Premier DEH-P401HD

I realized I've had Loudness OFF, for a long while now and never been a problem. Just turned it on medium, sounds pretty good, but not too much different once I turn it up.

Basically I just wanna make sure, it's not putting extra stress on the speakers?

+1 with the clipping. Few radios have variable loudness, so when the volume is over a certain level it cuts out. Also at moderate to high volume levels the sound gets boomy. I prefer a balanced sound
