Loudest 12" SPL sub for 1600W RMS

this is true..... from my exp with hdc3's which i run now, they will take WAY more then 1k rms... im working on a build that i will be putting about 3600rms to 1 hdc3 18
How are these the same? Xfl has 220oz magnet and Hdc3 has 340oz magnet. Are you saying the extra 120 ounces on the Hdc3 is a waste?

magnet size does NOT determine power handeling. coil and cooling determine thermal and soft parts determine mechanical.

I'm not trying to argue but why didn't AQ just use a 220 ounce? I always assumed the Hdc3 was the better sub? Are you implying that AB has better soft parts or is the Hdc3 magnet just marketing?

oh lord. ok magnet size is a clusterfuck. bigger isnt always better. there is a point where the gap is saturated and more magnet is essentially wasted. im not too well-versed on sub magnet dynamics and such. but the magnet helps control the cone along with the soft parts.

im sure AQ and AB know what they are doing. the AQ probobly has a reason to have that much more magnet, what that reason is im unsure. diferent gap dimensions, diferent top/bottom plate material, hell, even what grade ferrite comes into account here.

I would say AB has better soft parts IMHO. But, magnet weight is definitely not the key to which has better power handling. Other than just the coil, magnet diameter will make a big difference in power handling. Also the gap size between the top plate and pole piece will play a big role. For example LMS technology requires a larger gap to fit the coil and a looser one to implement a longer throw. These woofers typically have more motor force to help raise the BL and create a linear curve doing so. They end up to be very inefficient woofers. Adding more stacks onto the motor usually is implemented to increase BL and increase the throw of the woofer.

AQ/SQ, AB, and a few others actually use the exact same motor and most use the exact same soft parts. They end up being the same sub with different stitching and dust caps.

Most on the forums like to debate and argue that point, but I had to do that research when I was working for AQ/DD and the ending results were all in AQ's favor. Mainly do to their lower pricing point for the exact same sub.

Now, there were some companies that I found had the same motor but maybe slightly different spiders but same coil and so on...but most were next to not different at all.

the magnet doesnt make the sub its the coil and soft parts... however the hdc3s have stronger motors but abs softparts are alittle better.... Put a custom re one on a hdc3 motor and you would havek a beasty sub.

but the aq softparts are what mames they rated at 1k even tho they will take a bit more. ive seen hdc3 15 personally take about 4k or so playing music at that and it held up and still is working well and stif

either way buying another xfl (d2) you'd be spending the same for another amplifier. ultimately up to you what you do but if it was me, ditch the whole 4 guage idea run 0/1 everywhere, big 3 In ofc 0/1, front to back run of cca or ofc 0/1 sell the battery you have now, upgrade to the largest you can afford for the rear and up front do some research even the beefy durlast group 31s from sams club would fit the bill. buy a second of your amplifier strap to the sub you have now and worry about alternator upgrades. just be smart with your gain follow the many proved methods of matching the output from you headunit for clean power. my way instead of having to sell your amp and sub and possibly your box you stick to what you have now and just build up from there.
