louder?

Hey guys,

Right now i have a single 12" DVC 4ohm type r wired at 2ohms to an alpine mrp-m500 amp. The type r is in a custom ported box that is 2.15 cubic feet after displacements and tuned to 37hz fb. It is in an SUV so it is loud enough for me when i play some hard hittin bass songs like da blow by lil jon.

Anyways...Im hopefully gonna be getting a car sometime in the future, probably like a honda civic ex. I figured that since i will be driving a car, and the sub is going to be going in a trunk instead of just being in an open area of an suv, that the single type-r wouldnt be loud enough.

So i was thinking of getting an 18" FI SSD when i do get my car. I would probably only add the copper coil, but maybe the bp power. It would go in a custom ported box.

Would that sub be alot louder than my type-r? And what would be a good amp to power that sub? I was thinking a nine.1 but that would be too much power.

Cause i dont really want to have to put a ho alternator in my car, but i could do the big 3 and i heard that anywhere at or above 1000rms, i would need a new alternator.

So would that sub choice be the best bet? And what amp companies are somewhat cheap but good quality?

I listen to mostly rap/hip hop and my budget would probably be around 500 just for a sub/amp. I could MAYBE go up to 600, but would like to stay around 500.

are you going to have enough room for an 18? cheaper just to add another type R and get like 1500 watts RMS amp.

hmm yea im not sure if i would have room...i mean i would probably use the entire trunk but maybe i should wait until i get the car then measure.

Yea i could probably get another type-r, but would it matter that one type-r would be used and the other brand new?

Maybe, if i did get a new sub/amp, would a 15" be louder than a type-r? What about 2 type-r's? And would the fi ssd be the way to go if i did do that?

nah it work fine as long as they are the same, get another D4 and wire them to 1 ohm. find an amp that puts out like 1000+ at 1 ohm. put them in a good ported box and they will be loud. but ya i would wait untill you get the car and see how big of a box you can fit in there before buying anything.

ok. would i need a ho alternator with 2 type r's? And just curious, out of the brands like DD, FI, RE, etc, would FI be the best best to go with in terms of performance/loudness for the money?

no you wouldnt need a HO alt

honestly for your money id recommend getting a second type r 12 and porting the pair.....thatll be your best performance per dollar imo

with two type r's. I dont wanna overpower them by too much, even tho i have heard type-rs can handle about 800rms a piece. Would that amp truly do 1200rms at 1ohm?

and im still curious what you guys think is the best sub company out of FI, RE, DD, other non mainstream brands in terms of loudness, performance, customer service, and durability?
