i have a nissan sentra 01 with 2 1000d memphis amps and 4 10in jl audio w3 subs. i have the gain on both amps on 1/3 each one. my sh*t hits hard as hell but i want it to be a little louder if you know what i mean. i have i them in a seal box with fiberglass sprayed on the inside of the box. a little trick i learned about. it makes the speakers hit a little harder. should i get a ported box or switch to bigger speakers. i am only using jl so dont tell me about other stuff i am bias to jl.

Get ported boxes.

switch to larger subs if you want SPL. Buy SPL subwoofers. JL w3's and w6's are more of a SQ sub. Ported will also give you a bit more SPL. Go with the newer 12w6v2's....some nasty SPL there...if you have the cash go with 2 13w7's

That "trick" involves giving the waves a nice reflective surface. If you want to get louder without changing equipment just build a ported box.

Gain up higher!

A ported box will also make it louder.

The gain isn't a volume knob so don't turn it up unless it is currently setup incorrectly.

I would go ported as my first option. It should get pretty friggin loud. If that isn't good enough, or you want to skip that option alltogether then I'd go straight to 12's or 15/13's. Get 2 and they should pound pretty friggin hard.

thanks for the help. i dont really wont to turn the gain up b/c it will only cause more strain on the woofers. trust me they are hitting very hard now. i am leaning toward a ported box.
