Lots of mids recommended, now rank them

SQ AND punchiness

Critical Mass 6.5

SQ - 6.25 MB- 8.75

Kicker SS 6.5 - won't work, strictly mid bass only, no midrange

JBL P650C

SQ - 6.75 MB - 4.5

Orion HCCA 6.2

SQ - 5.75 M- 7.5

Diamond Hex

SQ - 7.5 MB - 7.5

MTX TXC6.0

SQ - 8 MB - 8

PPI 356cs

SQ - 8.5 MB - 7

Cerwin Vega

SQ - 8.25 MB - 6.75

Illusion Luccent LM-6 - I'd like to see the X-Max spec... the whole purpose of the design is to be shallow with extra throw.. I'd also like to know from those who said they have no mid bass how low they crossed them over and how much power they had.

Edit: SQ of mids only. Actual results will depend on a lot of things... crossover, power, install, system design, system tunning, etc.

I actually would agree 100% with gary on this, but give the PPI a flat 9 for SQ and giving the MTX a 8.5 MB and 7.5 on SQ. Just showing that peoples ears a bit different, but generally the same.

The PPIs and Cerwins are too deep (they're 2.5" mounting depth, I've only got 2.3"). There's a guy over in the diymobileaudio.com site that has a pair of the Diamond Hex mids for sale (I don't know how much he wants for them yet), but they're probably going to be out of my price range. Too bad, it looks like they would be a good choice. The Critical Mass mids look good, but I don't think they'll sell just the mids, and the comp set is way out of my price range. That leaves me with the Orions, MTXs, and JBLs. It doesn't take long to have choices forcefully narrowed down. I do appreciate all the unput on this though. I will contact the guy with the Diamonds and see if I can get him to part with them for $100.

Hertz Space 6 Neo looks like another mid that will fit, but I haven't been able to find a price for them, or find out if they can be purchased not as part of a comp set to get them.

I emailed the dude with the Diamonds and offered him $100 for just the mids (no crossovers or tweets). He countered with $150. I recountered with $125 and am still waiting on his reply. He said these speakers are only 4 monhts old and they were only used in a Civic with a 50 watt amp. He's getting rid of them because wants to go with the 8" Diamonds. They sound like pretty decent speakers (from what people have said about them, I haven't actually heard them). I know they're very expensive if you have to buy them new.
