Serious question, understanding I'm on the pro-legalization side of things, but can't agree to it until this one major issue is resolved:

How do you test for driving under the influence to prove somebody is currently high and didn't just smoke a few days ago, as it will still test positive to a pee test?

Until an effective/accurate way to test/deal with stoned drivers is achieved I just don't think its safe to legalize it, and don't see it happening.

And if you say getting high doesn't impact your driving ability, or "Hey its better than driving drunk" your an idiot.

you really cant. there is a zero tolerance policy (luckily many states have called bullshit on it, and will not use it) that states if there is thc or any other cannabonoids in your system, you are considered DUI. the problem is...you can have it in your system for a month+/- (depending on how much of a smoker you are) and be completely sober, and yet you will be convicted of a DUI.

the only test thats even get close is a saliva test. but even that can detect it up to 72 hours after youve smoked. not to mention you dont even have to smoke. just being around it can cause a positive on a saliva test.

no real way to do an accurate on the spot test as far as i know.

First off, even reading through alot of that, I find it hard to believe he will do the amount of time you claim. He just got arrested today as you say, so what makes you think they wont cut him a deal for pleading guilty?

This will be a pointless thread to make a valid argument in, but still, it has to be pointed out that drug users aren't necessarily all scumbags.

The fact that drugs are illegal is the biggest risk with using drugs, which should probably raise some red flags if you have a brain considering the current "war on drugs" approach to dealing with the "since history began" idea of using drugs as a part of living life.

I use drugs on rare occasions, I drink, so by a lot of your mentalities that makes me a scumbag loser who deserves to be *** ***** by murderers in jail. However, I respect people, I have a good job and am only going up, I maintain great relationships with friends and lovers, and I live a life I am generally satisfied with living. Every life has ups and downs but on the whole I live a fairly upstanding productive lifestyle.

But whoops, I just got caught with a gram of blow on the one night I chose to use it in the last 3 months. Going to jail. Losing my job. Losing respect from society. Felony drug charge in my record, there goes future employment. And on and on and on...

Drugs aren't the problem, because people that are maniacs about doing drugs and being horrendously addicted are going to do so regardless of the penalty because, (check your local police reports) THEY ALREADY DO. Drug laws only **** people to hopeless lives or shove them deeper into hopelessness.

And I'm no ****ing hippie either. I don't even smoke pot or do psychedelics. But ****, if you want to do those things, why the HELL should anyone have the ability to take away your freedom of CHOICE?
