Mainly looking at Rock Crawling RC's. Wanting some suggestions on CHEAP but decent rtr rock crawlers, with the ability to upgrade in the future. I want it cheap, as I don't know if I'll actually enjoy the hobby or not. I do see myself spending $150-$250 though. What brands should I look for in that range? What online stores should I browse?

I have had Losi, HPI, and Ofna RC cars. They were all well built, and fun to assemble. Traxxas makes nice RTR stuff. Admittedly, rock crawling is a little new to the hobby, and no one had them when I was still racing the ones I had. I would still look at the brands mentioned to see what they offered.

If you want to get into the hobby, the cheapest way in the long run is to get a RTR truck that is in the $400 range....

Otherwise you might get something that breaks often or needs upgrades out of the box.

I found a used Traxxas Revo 3.3 for around $350 with several extra parts on Ebay a few years ago, even in the original box. Might be worth a shot. This was a $500+ truck with another $100 in parts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Traxxas losi and hpi make good stuff. Realistically f you want something good and capable of 22.2 volts you might wanna think brushless as well. Tons of power with a nice 40-50c lipo setup. And also think about 300. Not 150.

I have a 2.4 ghz traxxas 1/16 revo brushless. Thing is a blast. Here's a few vids running a single 3s 45c lipo

For a beginner who isnt sure if they'll like the hobby, I would recommend something a bit more capable overall, like a 1/10 electric stadium truck. Dont go blowing huge money on 11v and 22v li-po batteries right off the bat, wait until you get the hang of things for that.

A crawler is really only good for going very very slow over things (obviously) which may get boring quick, a decent 1/10 truck will give you good speed and run well on a variety of surfaces.

Some of the best sites are :

towerhobbies.com

horizonhobby.com(for losi stuff)

I bought 2 different vehicles. Still haven't been shipped yet, but that was due to PayPal issues. One is a Losi Micro Crawler, 1/24 scale. Was $50 shipped, used. The other is a Associated SC10 stadium truck. The SC10 isn't in RTR condition, I need a few things, such as a radio and motor. Have a couple LiPo's that I bought off of CL.
